Attorney Lee Franks

Personal Profile

Lee grew up in a number of Texas communities, Lubbock, Perryton, Eagle Pass, and Lampasas, before graduating high school in Pecos in 1982.  Although he started college at Abilene Christian University, he graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden in 1987 as a geological engineer.

Initially working for an Indonesian gold exploration company owned by Pennzoil, Lee returned to the U.S. in 1990 and worked at a sulfur mine in west Texas also owned by Pennzoil.

Wanting to know a bit about money, Lee returned to school in 1992 studying accounting and finance at Texas Tech University and earning a master’s degree in Energy and Mineral Resources from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.

Facing a stiff domestic job market in the minerals industry and working through changing personal priorities, Lee secured a teaching certificate. He later successfully wooed the lovely and gracious Ginny Scott who blessed him with three fine young men.

Lee primarily taught secondary science for the Austin, Lubbock, and Frenship school districts in Texas before leaving education after eight years in the classroom. With the support of his family, he earned his law degree  in 2008 from the Texas Tech School of Law.

Since passing the bar, Lee first worked as an associate for an elder law firm in Lubbock, then Lee and Laura Beth Pleasant opened Franks and Pleasant in July of 2012 embracing the practice of elder law helping clients of all ages navigate and manage the issues of aging and disability by providing Medicaid and estate planning, and probate related legal services.

After parting ways amicably in 2021, Lee formed his practice, The Law Offices of Lee Franks.  He continues to apply his knowledge of an ever-changing Medicaid & MERP system while continuing to work with his old partner Laura Beth to fill the needs of their clients.
